word of the day: plethora

1: a bodily condition characterized by an excess of blood and marked by turgescence and a florid complexion 2: excess, superfluity ; also : profusion, abundance
word of the day: gravitate

I’ve decided that I am going to attempt to get better at drawing type by posting some hand drawn type treatments from the word that is being displayed at Merriam Webster’s Word of the Day. Here goes my first stab at it, using the free form pen tool in Illustrator. Not really paying too close attention to detail. Just free form drawing the shapes with little or no editing after the shape is formed.
an a cappella thunderstorm
I came across this filtered into my RSS reader this morning and was thoroughly entertained. Not only is it a choir covering the “Africa” from TOTO (YES! awesome already I know) but, if you wait through the intro you will witness one of the coolest things I’ve seen a choir group do, imitate a thunderstorm. Never have I ever thought that humans could replicate something as beautiful as a thunderstorm. Today I’m proven wrong…Enjoy!
a kind of outburst
automate your messages
right before the connections lost
discover the thrilling fall
as you’re welcomed by your hostwere you turning toward home
as a means for caution
while hugging at your sides
and getting to the bottomfloating above and under
your presence is requested
beginning to act aloof
it’s what none of us expected

This is a really awesome animated short that I came across in my RSS reader this morning. I had to share with those who still read this blog I’ve been neglecting!
